Is the tailored resume download really free?
Yes. Upload, score, rewrites, review, Word file, and designed PDF are free. No trial, no credit card, no download lock, and no account required.
Free ATS resume download — Word or PDF, no paywall
A free tailor is only free if you can take the file. Many tools score or rewrite a resume, then lock the download behind a trial or a credit card. Resume Tailors does not.
You review every change, then download an editable Word document or a designed PDF. No account. No paywall. Same tool as the form on the homepage.
What you actually get to keep
- An editable Word (.docx) file of the tailored resume
- Or a PDF rebuilt from one of four templates: Modern, Sidebar, Compact, or Elegant
- The same jobs, dates, and skills you uploaded — reworded, not replaced
- A keyword coverage estimate for that posting, plus missing must-haves called out
The templates will not copy a custom original design. They hold together, stay readable for scanning software, and they are yours to send.
What “free download” should mean
It should mean the file leaves with you after you have seen the edits — not a watermarked preview, not a remaining-credits meter, not a prompt for a card at the last step.
Resume Tailors also will not invent experience to make the file look stronger. If you want that rule in full, read why invented experience is a bad bargain and how the free ATS tailor works.
How to get the file
- Upload and add the job. Upload a PDF or DOCX resume and add the job description by link or paste.
- Review every rewrite. Keep, edit, or reject each suggested change. Nothing is written to a file until you do.
- Download Word or a designed PDF. Take an editable Word file, or a PDF rebuilt from Modern, Sidebar, Compact, or Elegant — free, every time.
Prefer to tailor by hand first? Read the step-by-step guide. After you have a file, you can draft five interview answers from the same resume and job description.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to sign in to download?
No. Sign in only if you want files saved under My resumes. Signed-out downloads work the same.
Why is the download a Word file instead of my original PDF?
Rewriting text inside your original PDF reliably breaks the layout. You get an editable Word file with your content, or a PDF rebuilt from a clean template that scanners can read.
Can I download before reviewing the changes?
No. Resume Tailors will not hand you a file until you have gone through the suggested rewrites. That is the point: you should see what you are about to send.
Is this the same as the free ATS resume tailor page?
That page explains the tailor — keyword coverage, no invented experience, how the score works. This page is about keeping the file: Word or PDF, no paywall, no account. Same tool, on the homepage.
